review: brooklyn (2015)

Synopsis (IMDB): An Irish immigrant lands in 1950s Brooklyn, where she quickly falls into a romance with a local. When her past catches up with her, however, she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.

I know I haven’t been posting very frequently – I’ve been extremely busy recently. BUT… I have been watching movies. Got a whole queue of ratings/reviews for you guys.

Because of this, I’m going to be changing the format of my reviews ONCE AGAIN.

This time – to a very short, compressed version.

I really want to get out my thoughts to you guys before the Academy Awards, and this is the only way so… hope you enjoy byte-sized ratings!

Here is Brooklyn for you.

———————————————–

OVERALL IMPRESSION: 9.5/10

ACTING: 8/10 *
CINEMATOGRAPHY: 7/10
NARRATIVE/SCREENPLAY: 10/10
SCORE: 9/10

COMMENT: A simple story, but so exciting in its execution.

* This film mainly consisted of 10/10 acting for me. Saoirse Ronan has been one of my favourite actresses, ever since The Lovely Bones back in 2009. Domhnall Gleeson was fantastic as always. Those two actresses that played the hilarious female duo that lived with Saoirse’s charcater, Eilis, were spot on. The guy that brought down the acting score for me was Emory Cohen, as Tony.

  1. Read the book. Saw the movie. Both were good, but I enjoyed the movie so much more than the book. The movie had much more “heart” in my opinion. Loved the movie! Did not want it to end.
