review: joy (2015)

SYNOPSIS (IMDB): Joy is the story of the title character, who rose to become founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: 7.2/10

ACTING: 7.6/10 *
CINEMATOGRAPHY: 7/10
NARRATIVE/SCREENPLAY: 7/10
SCORE: 7/10

COMMENT: A simple story that just fell short of (very) high expectations.

* I love Jennifer Lawrence. I however, do not feel like she should be in that Oscar category for best actress this year for this performance. Her usual spark didn’t quite make it into Joy. I wanted to be moved by this film – just as the trailer had moved me. I wanted to feel inspired. While Joy was an ok movie, it didn’t really affect me emotionally.

I wanted J-Law and Bradley Cooper to KILL IT like they did in Silver Linings Playbook. Such a dream team. Try again next year :)
