review: rogue one; a star wars story (2016)

SYNOPSIS (IMDB): The Rebel Alliance makes a risky move to steal the plans for the Death Star, setting up the epic saga to follow.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: 7.9/10

ACTING: 8/10 *
CINEMATOGRAPHY: 8/10
NARRATIVE/SCREENPLAY: 7.5/10 **
SCORE: 8/10

REVIEW IN ONE SENTENCE: Star Wars is always an exciting thing in itself, but Rogue One was very… average.

* I’m pretty disappointed in this because Felicity Jones is currently maybe one of my favourite actresses. She didn’t seem to have her usual spark in Rogue One as female protagonist Jyn Erso. This could have been due to the writing, but I feel quite let down.

** Yeah the story was just… boring. My boyfriend actually fell asleep in the theatre (he has also been lacking sleep over the past few days… but this still says something). I just couldn’t build enough attachment to the characters to care about the story or what would happen to them. The entire movie was just… flat. Sorry. The only redeeming character that I cared about was the droid, K-2SO.
